- Irrigation: "the amarillis needs to be kept slightly moist, but it does not tolerate waterlogging of the soil. The ideal is to perform watering only when the substrate is dry.
- Fertilization: The fertilization can be done once a week or every other week".
- Cultivation: "For pot planting, the landscape designer recommends using ⅔ of vegetal soil, ⅓ of worm humus, and ⅓ of perlite.
- Luminosity: "The species appreciates full sun, preferably the morning sun. Ideally, it should receive at least four hours of light per day.
- Flowering: The plant blooms once a year, during springtime. To ensure that it blooms, it must be given quality compost, fertile soil, and good lighting.
- Seedlings: According to Lino, it is possible to make amarillis seedlings from the plant's bulbs by cutting them into up to 4 pieces and planting them in soil made of vermiculite. The substrate needs to be kept in a dark environment with good humidity.
They say that giving someone an amaryllis means admiration, so take advantage of these professional tips to grow beautiful flowers and give them as gifts to your loved ones.
Amaryllis X Lily
According to Ana Paula Lino, the amarillis and the lily have flowers with similar shapes, however, "they are completely different plants. amaryllidacea and is native to South America, while the lily is in the family liliaceae and is native to countries in Europe and Asia.
Another aspect that differentiates the two little plants is the type of climate. Amaryllis likes the tropical climate and can be grown in warmer regions, but it cannot tolerate cold. In opposition, the lily grows during winter and survives harsh temperatures.
The flowering of the two species also happens at different times. While you can admire the beauty of the amarillis during spring, the lilies only bloom in mid to late summer. If you want, you can grow both, because both are beautiful. However, do not forget that the care is different.
