Cushions are an example of how something cheap can completely transform the face of a room. Colors, models, shapes, textures... The options are many! And how about crocheting them? You can make them with your favorite stitch, with the thread you think is most beautiful and the color you want. The market offers some options: synthetic threads (acrylic, nylon and polyester), natural threads (such ascotton and bamboo), animal-based yarns (such as cashmere wool), knitted yarns, and twine.

You can even make little sets, and compose the decoration of the environment with colors that match each other. Or you can make several pieces, little by little and unhurriedly, and give them to your loved ones on various commemorative dates throughout the year or, of course, at Christmas. Check out some ideas:

1. dégradé

If you use three or more colors, you can create the dégradé effect. If you have a wall with this technique (or ombré), use the same colors on the pillows, it will look beautiful!

2. string will also do

There are threads of various weights and textures. If you have pets at home, especially cats and dogs, and they have access to the cushions, invest in a thicker and more resistant thread, such as string.

3. color mosaic

Separate the colors used in the decoration of the room, and reproduce them on the pillows, forming specific drawings, geometric, abstract? a mosaic that matches the rest of the decor.

4. gift kit

Create a design or pattern on paper, then crochet it onto the pillow. Repeat the process on other pillows, just alternating the colors used. You will have a complete gift set.

5. tone on tone

If you already have some pillows that match each other, choose a predominant color and use it to create a new pillow, which will join the others for a beautiful and elegant composition.

6. patchwork cushion

In the same style as the famous patchwork quilt, only in this case, a pillow. Take care when making each square. Use colors that match each other, and preferably threads with the same texture.

7. pillows for the cold

There is no such thing - at least, the market hasn't invented it yet - as a cushion for the cold. But you can say you have one specifically for winter if you make it using stitches that form wefts common to cold-weather coats, like this example. Your corner will look charming!

8. visual effect

For the first option, make separate squares in two colors, and then join them together with a third color of thread. For the second pillow, you can use a thread that has several colors throughout, or splice several colors together, so that each square of the design is a different color.

9. closed stitches

The stitches are close enough to form a circular flower first, then the outline makes the design square, and several are placed together to form the front of the pillow. To make the lining, use a fabric in the same color as one of the threads used.

10. same colors, different shapes

A charming little set for the bed, with two pillows with the same line, but different shapes. Besides serving as decoration, the piece in the shape of a scroll also serves as a footrest - a perfect idea for those who have had a busy day.

11. lots of love!

Use a thick yarn or knitted yarn to make this heart-shaped pillow, and prefer to use only one stitch to make it uniform. This idea is perfect for a couple's room, a romantic young lady, or as a gift for someone special.

12. bet on the classic

To avoid making mistakes, start with classic designs and easy graphics, like this idea. The open stitches form four triangles, joined at one end to form the middle of the pillow, with a rose in the center.

13. basics for beginners

For those who are now entering the world of threads, the best is to make basic stitches, and with the same thread. If you have already mastered this part, keep practicing the stitches for a while, and innovate by mixing colors. It's a great exercise!

14. colored stripes

In the round pillow, with different colors, if possible use thread that has several colors in its extension, or choose to use shades in dégradé, so that the division between colors is soft and delicate.

15. coordinated set

You look at that corner every day and think that there is something missing, a touch more to make it perfect. Invest in matching pillows, in size, shape, and color, and use the kit to decorate.

16. baby room

Some baby rooms have an animal, jungle, or zoo theme. For these rooms, make pillows in the shape of animals. Use felt to make eyes, for example, and a fluffier thread to create pom-poms, which can serve as noses, ears, or tails.

17. open points to facilitate

Open stitches are easier to make, since the basic of them is to make the little chain and continue with the stitch, leaving larger spaces between one closing and the other. Larger stitches make the piece easier to make.

18. the comfort of textures

Fluffy pillows, with textures, make any room cozier, and bring a feeling of comfort. Invest in designs in high relief. They look perfect on armchairs and sofas near the fireplace.

19. round inside the square

Circular flowers made with high, low and picot stitches were connected by stars with chain stitch. Since it is made of raw string, it matches any kind or color of decoration.

20. tall flowers

In this rectangular pillow, raised flowers mark the center of each square.

21. don't be afraid of colors

Children's drawings are always painted with various colors, resulting in a combination that adults would probably not do. Dare more in your creations and mix shades to create different and original pieces.

22. blue and white

The double high stitch appears along the entire length of the pillow. To make it easier to make, use the same stitch and thread to make the piece. Break the monotony with pieces of other colors.

23. different formats

Pillows don't necessarily have to have the same square shape; here they appear rectangular, and are perfect if placed over the seat of an armchair, taking up the whole length of the backrest.

24. finger crochet

If you choose to use a slightly thicker thread, such as string or knitting thread, it is possible to crochet using your fingers instead of a needle. Practice little by little. Not having a suitable needle will no longer be an excuse!

25. all in high relief

The background of this cushion design is formed by several little squares, with elongated low dots and picots. Then they were joined together, and at the junction of them, a line in high relief horizontally and vertically delimits the spaces. Flowers crown the middle of each one.

26. diagram

This pillow uses a lot of popcorn stitches, both high and low. The popcorn stitch is responsible for this raised diagram look, but it is actually just chubby. You can mix the use of thin thread - in this case bicolor - with string, and the effect is very nice.

27. basic decoration

Predominantly closed, the stitches follow the same pattern all the way through, and the pillow even has a little different frill stitch.

28. decorating the garden

To celebrate spring or summer, use light, cheerful colors to decorate your garden or balcony. Here, yellow draws all the attention to the cushion on a white background, and the roses are a special charm.

29. little fox

For those who are passionate about the world of foxes, or simply to decorate their room with a cute little animal, this is the idea: an easy-to-make round cushion that gets eyes, snout, and ears to fill the room with cute and cuddly things.

30. trio in the décor

To give a new look to a forgotten corner in the decoration, use more than one pillow. They don't necessarily have to be of different colors. In this idea, they are all made of raw string, but the models (stitches and final design) are different.

31. contrast with the whole room

The white sofa received a square cushion, with some drawings in light colors, which match superbly with the rest of the colors of the room.

32. almost retail

To make this pillow, several threads were used, and all of them are two colors, so the combination is interesting, to say the least.

33. twin pillows

A great gift idea is identical pairs of pillows: design, color, and stitching, all the same. They look good on the bed, on the sofa, or even in that reading corner under the window.

34. creative kit

For a change in your living room - or even to give a different gift - a kit of different pieces, but with the same colors: two pillows, one square and the other joined in hexagons, and a blanket - which can also easily be used as a table runner.

35. gift from grandma

A cushion that looks like a present lovingly received from grandma.

36. almost a pillow

So fluffy, so chubby, perfect for lazing on the couch and using as a pillow. This pillow, made with string and high thread. Use a contrasting color and combine with other pillows.

37. delicate gift

The petals form a beautiful blue rose, in a very delicate tone, that mark the center of several squares.

38. multicolored piece

A background of black fabric serves as the base for this multicolored pillow, with rows of predominantly closed stitches from the center to the sides, 20 colors in all, an ideal piece to decorate a neutral or monochromatic room.

39. violet color

The violet tone was chosen for the background and thread of this pillow, which has very open stitches forming flowers, interspersed with more closed stitches, joining each flower to form a large lilac garden.

40. raw string

If you use it to create a cushion cover, for example, take advantage of the versatility of the raw thread, which goes with everything, and use the cover with cushions of different colors (from the fabric that makes the background).

41. kaleidoscope

Matching colors interspersed with neutral or raw thread create a cushion in the best kaleidoscope design style. Use in places that have at least one of the colors of the piece in the decor.

42. to assemble the trousseau

Baby rooms don't necessarily need to have pillows in children's shapes only. For little girls' rooms, the use of flowers in the decoration goes very well. Use the color of a child's object - a pair of slippers, for example - as a base to create a personalized piece full of color.

43. combine parts

The stool was reupholstered, and received a crocheted cape with candy colors. To go along with the new decoration, a pillow with a white background and drawings in the same colors.

44. crochet mandala

If you have an esoteric side and love to incorporate details that refer to the mystical world in your decoration, the idea is to make a pillow that resembles a mandala. Use strong colors and different points, to make the design visually pleasing.

45. crochet lace

Crochet can also make extremely delicate pieces. These cushions, made of linen, were given crochet details that look more like lace. Fine thread and a beautiful design enhance the piece.

46. colored set

A set of colorful pillows can change the face of an environment and make it more cheerful and relaxed. Use in rooms that receive young people and teenagers, or in environments with neutral colors, to contrast.

47. gray and yellow

The colors gray and yellow, no matter what shade - whether lighter or darker - always make a great combo. Invest in surefire color combinations like this one!

48. flower of fire

To make the piece more interesting, choose the colors of the threads as well. Reddish and wine - warm colors - with a good design, you can even imitate small flames, like the petals of this flower. To further enhance the piece, decorate the flower core with mini pearls.

49. composing the decoration of the room

For example: bedding coordinated with a set of pillows and cushions in different fabrics, textures, and colors.

50. gift cushion

A cushion made with thick thread and closed stitches, with a good filling, looks like a little gift package. If it is used as a present, it doesn't even need a super wrapping. A transparent package, that shows the beauty of the piece, is enough.

51. a treat for your sofa

Sometimes you get the urge to give your room a makeover, whether it's painting the walls or replacing the sofa, but if you are financially strapped for cash, it's better to opt for more subtle changes, such as moving a piece of furniture, covering the sofa, and adding new cushions to the decor.

52: Combo for the living room

You can put together a combo to renew the living room too, with a blanket or a sofa cover, a kit of new pillows, with different designs and colors. This is a kind of cheap decoration that changes the face of the room.

53. small garden

If you are giving a present to a loved one and don't know what to give, how about making a crocheted flower garden in one piece? Make identical flowers in different colors, put leaves around them, and join them all together with very large stitches, so that you can see the bottom of the pillow.

54. created new

The bedside table doesn't have to be just a square piece of wooden furniture next to the bed. It can be an older piece of furniture with a new look. Cover it with a little rug. Place a nice pillow next to it to match.

55. perfect backrest

A beautiful cushion, a little larger than the conventional size, can be used as a backrest for a work chair, for example, or a bench on the veranda. Since it will be used frequently, choose to use a neutral color, preferably not too light, so that it doesn't get dirty easily.

56. to make a charm

Crochet cushions are so versatile that besides being present in everyday decoration, they can also appear as decorative accessories in photography settings, such as small photo studios.

57. maternity kit

Are you visiting a mommy and the new member of the family in the maternity ward? Put together a crochet kit to go, and your gift will be unique: make pillows of different sizes and covers for the baby's hygiene items.

58. corner support

Who doesn't have a favorite corner to snuggle up on the couch and watch a cool movie, or simply to pick up a book and catch up on your reading. For this, a fluffy cushion is essential, to serve as a support.

59. secret garden

A garden already has its natural beauty, but it can become even more charming. Choose furniture that helps to compose the decoration, leaving a bucolic air, like in the movies. Use colorful objects, such as flowered pillows, to make the look more cheerful.

60. sumptuousness

To make a sumptuous bed, you don't need expensive or luxurious bedding, you just need to know how to compose the colors and create an attractive look, the kind that makes you want to throw yourself into bed.

61. adequate lining

When using only one color of thread to make the pillow, choose a background that is: the same color as the thread, to harmonize, or white or black fabric, just to create a contrast.

62. equal points

All these cushions follow the same style: basic chainstitch, with the characteristic triangles of almost all traditional crochet pieces. Use different colors, but in harmony with each other.

63. for a child's room

If your child has a favorite story or legend, customize a cushion with a character design. You can make the character's face in the middle of the piece or create the whole piece in the shape of the character.

64. strong colors

To give gifts to people with strong opinions and outstanding presence, why not bet on a kit composed of pillows also with stronger colors? Since these colors already attract attention, choose to make the same designs on all of them, to assemble a coordinated set.

65. for kitten lovers

Here is a great idea for a gift for someone who is in love with cats. Following the same design idea, changing something here and adding something there, you can make an owl as well.

66. a cozy corner

Enhance the reading corner with a pillow personalized with the colors of the room. Not only will it make the room more charming, it will also increase comfort!

67. composite

For a veranda, backyard, or balcony, make pillows in color, or with a raw background and colorful details. If you have plants in the room, use the same colors as the flowers. The combination looks amazing.

This duo of gray crocheted pillows has the same design. The idea is a kind of medallion in the center, with very closed stitches, and a rose in high relief. The other stitches, tighter, with details in the corners.

69. chevron zig-zag

Chevron print - popularly known as zig-zag - is one of today's favorite decorator's items. Use the idea to your advantage and personalize your corner with dots that go up and down. Use strong colors always with white.

70. all in the same tone

To create more harmony among the decorative objects in the environment, try to use the same color or very close shades. In this case, the tone of the wall and the retro fan was reproduced in the pillow and blanket.

7 tutorials for making crocheted pillows at home

Now it's time to get your favorite needle and thread, and get to work making your own pillows:

1. crochet squares

This is a basic, beginner's class, with the most commonly used stitches in crochet.

Since this is the first step in learning new - and bigger - pieces, use small pieces of thread that could otherwise go to waste, so that if you have any difficulty you can make, unmake, and remake. And even if you have mastered the art of crochet, don't throw those small pieces of thread away: they can be used to make a detail in a piece.

2. mini daisy

This is a square, which are types of initial stitches. For this piece, the choice was wool, so that once it is ready, the cushion is fluffy, the kind that feels good to rest your face on. The daisy is that flower with a very yellow core and white petals. So, for this piece, four colors were used.

For the petals, high stitches and popcorn stitch. Low and low chains help to give body to the square, which serves as a frame for the flower.

3. scaled

The magic circle starts this piece. One high point + two little chains + two high points. This is the basic recipe to form the base, which will receive the scale. This, in turn, is composed of five high points.

This row, with four scales initially, is called the fantasy. The low stitch is responsible for leaving the scales in place. Intersperse scales with grid. To make a traditional size pillow, make 10 rows of scale stitch.

4. maxi crochet without needle

Use knitted yarn to make this option. maxi crochet does not use needles, the fingers are responsible for making the low stitches and forming the pillow. With the same recipe, you can make a rug! Since knitted yarn is thin, use at least 3 yarns together at once. If it is a little thicker, use 2 together.

The same basic stitch, done in the needle, which is the little chain, is done here, but with the fingers. By making a row of little chains, the idea is that the appearance is that of a braid. Use two or more colors, to enhance the piece.

5. colored pillow

The first step is to make the core. Then, change the color of the thread to make the petals of the flower, with little chains, high and low stitches. Change colors again to make the second row of petals, with the same stitches. Again, change the thread. The new color will be responsible for making the first square, representing the leaves.

For the last time, the color change, only this time, to assemble the final square. After the rose is ready, with the square frame, it's time to join the little blocks. Four of them together already form a good-sized piece, for a small pillow. Finish with the finishing touches of colored rows in high stitches, around the entire base.

6. flower cushion Gisele

To make this cushion you will need natural (or raw) thread and three different colored threads, two of which will be part of the flowers and another for the leaves. To make the flower, start by making little correntinhas. For the core, high stitches are made, and for the petals, popcorn stitch. For the petals on the outside, already in another color, make high stitches too. Change colors again to make the leaves, inhighlight.

With the flower ready, the center of the piece, the rest of the front of the pillow is missing.

7. pineapple stitch crocheted pillow Candy Color

Candy colors are sweet and soft colors that make the pieces very current and delicate. Very quick project to make, since this is the front of the pillow only - it is glued on a ready-made pillow fabric.

The design is on the diagonal, with an X dividing the piece, made entirely in popcorn stitch. The pineapple stitch is made in the middle of the V-stitches, formed by seven high points interspersed by little chains. The finishing is done with little chains, half stitches, double high points, and pendants for each of the four corners.

There are many options for you to choose from and improve the decoration of some corner of your home, or even surprise someone with a personalized gift.
