Let your home be full of joy with candy colors

Let your home be full of joy with candy colors

Candy colors are, as the literal translation suggests, sweet colors. Their application in decoration appeared in the 60's, but was a great trend in the 70's, bringing colors in pastel shades and linked to the children's universe, which resemble the coloring of desserts and sweets.

The São Paulo architect Daniela Savioli explains that the color tones are soft and reflect a lot of light, which makes the environment lighter. Its use returned strongly in mid-2013 in fashion, reverberating also in interior decoration and entering the color catalog of the world's major paint manufacturers.

How to use candy colors in decoration

According to architect Luciana Voso, from Básico Arquitetura, a great advantage of using candy colors is the ease of combination: "You can use them on furniture, such as coffee tables and sofas, on walls, and even on curtains," she suggests.

Luciana also recommends the use of white details to avoid an excess of colors, and explains what each color can bring to the environment: "Mint green, yellow, and light blue tones bring freshness to the environment, while pink, lilac, and orange tones refer to romanticism.

The easy combination and lightness make pastel colors a favorite when decorating children's rooms and spaces, but candy colors can be used in a vast amount of rooms, always matching the desired style with the personality of the residents.

Luciana believes that combining items with darker or neutral tones and different textures helps in creating the environment. "You can choose a piece of furniture, sofa, table, or chairs as a starting element, and combine the environment from it, working with darker tones or textures to compose."

Decoration with candy colors as base

Luciana recommends the use of complementary colors, colors that are total opposites, when using them as a base: "One way to decorate with this tip would be to paint the walls in pink quartz and choose a sofa or other piece of furniture in yellow or light green", she exemplifies.

It is also possible to complement different shades of the same color. Luciana gives the example of combining moss green on the base with details in fennel green, light yellow, and other neutral tones.

Stela gives tips on how to decorate with candy colors reducing the risk of cloying. In the kitchen, utensils and even the pot sets can come in this color, creating a comfortable environment with focus on details. In the living room, retro furniture in candy colors helps create a light atmosphere, and, combined with white walls or light wood floors, makes the room comfortable without tiring the view.In bathrooms, countertops and mirror frames in pastel shades are a good choice. The main tip is to apply these details in gray or neutral environments, because they "give the place a good dose of joy.

If you want to give a more romantic air to the space, Daniela suggests coordinating the candy colors with floral prints and wallpapers that refer to the theme. Daniela also recommends the use of the hues for those who prefer a playful environment, combining the colors "with a touch of contemporaneity using other elements such as wood, metal and more vintage furniture."
